About Me and My Work
Massage therapy can be one of your first lines of defense in staying healthy. It does more than JUST "feel good," it can be preventative care.
An analogy I've always used is car maintenance. We all know that our cars need regular oil changes and tune-ups to keep running well. Many of the machines in our lives need maintenance. But the human body is the most complex and wonderful of machines and we beat ourselves up in so many ways. Yet, we forego our own maintenance, by considering it a luxury or pampering and sooner or later, we become ill and need a doctor.
What if we were giving our bodies the tune-ups we needed, regularly? What if we learned to listen to our bodies and could understand the cues that tell us when to rest, eat well, drink proper fluids, stretch and take care of injuries before needing stronger intervention?
Receiving regular massage helps you tune into your own body, learning your vulnerable areas, the places holding the most stress. You'll understand that sometimes your body aches more than you realize and you'll stop ignoring its signals. This all leads to better health.
It is my goal that a partnership is created between myself and a client, to work together in learning your body, your needs and the steps to take to restore, promote and maintain health.
ABOUT ME:
I have my CA State Certification as a
Massage Therapist, #6811
I've been in private practice in Sonoma County, CA since 1993, with almost 700 hours of massage education and a bachelor's degree in the sciences. Additionally, I've worked part-time at high-end health clubs and in very clinical settings. Out of college, I was a park ranger and environmental educator. I also had five years in landscaping, so you may imagine my love of the outdoors and physical activity. I've played sports and have worked with different types of athletes. But my practice certainly isn't just about that niche.
My clients have ranged from 8 years old to 86!
WHOM/WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK FOR?
The California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) has recently begun enforcing CA law SB 731, establishing the titles of Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) and Certified Massage Practitioner (CMP).
These titles signal to consumers that the CMT or CMP meets or exceeds quality standards established by law, including, but not limited to, anatomy and physiology, contra-indications, health and hygiene, business and ethics. Generally, a CMT has massage education of 500 hours or more; a CMP has 250 hours of education.
For anyone not “Certified’ by CAMTC, SB 731 makes it an unfair business practice for a person to state, advertise, or represent that he or she is certified or licensed by a governmental agency as a CMT or CMP. So, beware if someone talks about being licensed, or uses CMT without a state certification number/proof.

Why care if your therapist is state certified?
Most importantly, a state-certified CMT can be assured to be well-trained and have good education in massage modalities as well as related subjects.
People have different reasons for wanting massage--stress relief, injuries, emotional healing, prevention and maintaining health ....what's YOUR reason, or reasons? It helps to know what you need and find the right practitioner for YOU!
